This couple wanted to transform their front lawn into a magnet for butterflies and bees that set off the front of their 1930's semi-detached house. Using a colour palette of blues and purples, I included alliums, lavenders, and catmint, as well as grasses and shrubs, in four beds divided by a simple pea gravel path. An urn acts as a centrepiece between the flowers, with a tumbling clematis. I also advised on wisteria to grow up the house itself. The space is now a haven for wildlife and unrecognisable from the original poorly looking lawn.

Chapel Allerton Townhouse Garden

The owners of this small townhouse garden felt very overlooked and wanted a peaceful and more private garden. A birch tree was planted for extra privacy, and lilacs and jasmines were used to cover fences and walls as well as produce wonderful smells throughout. We worked together to utilise the end of the North-facing garden as this was drenched in sunlight and perfect for a patio. A cherry blossom added interest to their lower lawn, and flower beds lined the previously bare sides.

Bishopthorpe Garden Remodel

This family had a difficult area of their garden when they moved in where a greenhouse and shed had been removed - cue muddy mess! They wanted to have an area to relax in both for dining and lounging, surrounded by wafting plants and scents. I arranged a landscape gardener to lay paving and self-binding gravel between areas, as well as advising and implementing the entire planting scheme, with a focus on low-maintenance grasses and complementary plants in strong pinks and purples including echinacea, verbena and sanguisorba.

York Garden Reclamation

This garden had been completely overrun by ivy and ground elder which had to be stripped out for the new owner to create a garden to retreat to. I arranged for the garden to be sectioned off using timber beds that are used partly for cutting flowers, and partly for vegetables. The back of the space is now dedicated to trees and a wildflower meadow, meaning this area is perfect for wildlife, as well as the extra advantage of not requiring mowing! The front of the space includes a new patio and greenhouse surrounded by new flowers which will become more established over the coming years.

This brief involved clearing an unloved and overgrown space and creating an easy to maintain and tidy front garden, while providing colour and interest. A lavender circle surrounds a family sundial, and the bottom hand picture shows the planting becoming more established in the summer with grasses, shrubs and perennials.
